When departing from Besisahar, you are essentially choosing between the rhythmic, communal experience of a local bus or the slightly more agile, albeit pricier, shared Jeep.

• Local Bus: This is the quintessential Nepali travel experience. It is the cheapest option ($5–$9) and offers the most authentic slice of life. However, expect a bumpy ride. Buses here are often crowded and stop frequently to pick up or drop off locals.

• The "Tourist Tax" Scam: Be wary of opportunistic touts at the bus park who may try to overcharge you for a "private" seat or claim that buses are sold out. Always walk directly to the ticket counters or the driver’s desk to confirm prices.
• Motion Sickness: The road between Besisahar and the Kathmandu Valley is infamous for its sharp switchbacks. If you struggle with winding roads, take medication at least 30 minutes before departure.

The best time to make this journey is during the post-monsoon period (October to November) or the spring months (March to May) when the skies are clear and the road conditions are at their most stable.
