Nepal Visa Process Step-by-Step
Getting a visa for Nepal is a straightforward process for most travelers. The Visa on Arrival system is efficient, provided you come prepared.
Before You Arrive
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned date of departure from Nepal. You should also bring a passport-sized photograph. While you can fill out the arrival forms at kiosks in the Kathmandu airport, it is much faster to complete the online application up to 15 days before your arrival and print the barcode.
At the Airport (Kathmandu)
1. If you haven't filled out the online form, use the electronic kiosks to scan your passport and take a photo.
2. Proceed to the payment counter. You must pay in cash (USD, EUR, GBP, AUD are widely accepted, but USD is best). Credit card machines exist but are notoriously unreliable.
3. Take your receipt to the immigration desk to get the visa sticker in your passport.
Visa Extensions
Tourist visas can be extended for up to a maximum of 150 days in a given calendar year. Extensions are processed at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The cost is $3 per day for a minimum of 15 days.
